Though in the U.S.A. one has choices, we in most foreign countries do not have the option of changing router's. In Mexico, the routers are provided based on the service one pays for. Only by increasing or decreasing ones service does one get a different router. Mexico and others internet abilities are extreme antiquaited. We are subject to utilizing any and all the old technology from the countries that are able to upgrade to newer tech. For the past 7 years due to my place of residence in Mazatlan, Sinaloa. I've had to deal with a connection speed at best only 500k not K download speed and 50k not K upload. And a ping rate which at best was 250. A month ago much to my surprise they updated to a fiber optic system in which there isn't any "LAST MILE". Playing on line video games utilizing multi-play is now available. Though there are a number of choices. I now have 259M down load, 500 upload and a ping rate of 2. But as I said, one still only can utilize the router they issue when choosing a package.

im really confused on how this all works, do you just plug this in instead of the one provided by your network provider? and just get better wifi for no extra cost? can someone please explain

  96. Esponer

    EsponerΠριν 11 ημέρες

That's the idea. The network provider gives you a certain download and upload speed to your house (ADSL/fibre broadband). If you're plugged into the router via Ethernet and do a speed test, you're testing the limit of what the ISP is giving you. Your Wi-Fi set-up is a local affair, and won't be as fast as the connection over Ethernet (so plug your desktop in). You can absolutely get a router with faster Wi-Fi and basically get a better % of your full wired speed. Bear in mind the computer connecting has to support that faster speed (only very new laptops support Wi-Fi 6)!

May be a dumb question, but where I am the cable and internet connection from the wall is a coax style cable to the router and then you run Ethernet cables or use wifi from there. I don’t see a coax connection on the back of this router in the example. Is there a way around this or do you have to find a router that allows for that input? Apologies in advance I’m just learning. Edit - so apparently in this scenario I would have to use the ISP route and connect it via ethernet to the purchased router to make it work. If the whole idea is to get away from having to pay monthly for the ISPs crappy router, then how do you get around it? I read some people suggest you can ask your ISP to install an ethernet connection instead of the coax cable. Just not sure thats really an option here.
